Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) May Get Android 9.0 Pie Update, Geekbench Listing Tips

The Geekbench listing of the Galaxy A7 (2017) running Android 9 Pie was spotted on January 11, 2017

It appears that Samsung’s flagships in the Galaxy Note and Galaxy ‘S’ series are not the only smartphones set to receive the Android 9 Pie update. Apparently, Samsung is also planning an OS upgrade for the Galaxy A7 (2017) which was spotted running Android 9 Pie on Geekbench a few days ago. The mid-range smartphone’s visit to the benchmarking platform running the latest major build of Android suggests that the testing process has begun and an official Android 9 Pie update might be released soon for the smartphone which was unveiled early in 2017.

The Geekbench listing of the Galaxy A7 (2017), which received the December Android security patch last month, is dated January 11, 2018. But aside from its benchmark score, OS version and some hardware specifications of the smartphone, no other relevant details regarding the update’s release date or testing status are mentioned on the benchmarking platform. It is also worth mentioning here that Samsung is yet to confirm the release of Android 9 Pie for the Galaxy A7 (2017), which means the listing can’t be taken as a final nod for the rollout of an update. The Geekbench listing was first spotted by The Android Soul.

But if the recent developments are anything to go by, there is a high chance that the Galaxy A7 (2017) might get the Android 9 Pie update in the foreseeable future. Samsung has reportedly begun testing the Android 9 Pie beta update for the successor of the Galaxy A7(2017)- the Galaxy A7 (2018) after it was spotted running the latest Android build on Geekbench. A few days later, the Galaxy A5 (2017) was also listed running Android 9 Pie on the same benchmarking platform, which can be perceived as an indication that the Galaxy A-series might be upgraded to Android 9 Pie after all, with both the 2018 and 2017 editions receiving the update.

In addition to the flagships, Samsung’s updated roadmap for the Android 9 Pie update also includes low-end smartphones such as the Galaxy J4₹ 8,312, Galaxy J6₹ 9,915, and the Galaxy J3 (2017) among others. The inclusion of Galaxy J-series smartphones launched in 2017 on Samsung’s Android 9 Pie update schedule suggests that the Galaxy A7 (2017) might end up receiving the update at some point this year, but, it is not mentioned in the company’s aforementioned updated roadmap.
